FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is therapy like?
Therapy can be an excellent means for gaining insight and support as well as learning new strategies for coping with challenges. The specific form that our therapy sessions take will vary, depending on the concerns that are bringing you in. Some people enter therapy for assistance in getting unstuck in an area of their lives, while others are just seeking a place to have a voice and be heard. Depending on your goals and needs, our meetings may include examining your concerns from different perspectives, providing support and problem-solving around a particular area of difficulty, exploring patterns in your life and their underlying origins, or a combination of all of the above.
What kind of time commitment can I expect?
In most cases, you can expect to meet on a weekly basis. If you are in significant distress, or if you are wanting to work more intensively on your concerns, then we may meet more frequently for a period of time. The overall duration of therapy will depend on your particular circumstances and goals. We will work together to determine how often and how long we need to see one another as we work towards the changes you’re seeking in your life.
Will the things I talk about in therapy be kept confidential?
Under most circumstances, the law protects the absolute confidentiality of all communications between a client and therapist. There are some limits to this privilege, however; these are described in the downloadable Office Policies Form on the “Getting Started” page. Please also note that I cannot guarantee the confidentiality of electronic communications.
How much does therapy cost?
My fee is $210 per 45-minute session. Payment by cash or check is due at the time of service. For those with financial need, reduced fee services are available on a limited basis. If you’re concerned about your ability to pay for therapy, just ask; I’m happy to discuss options with you.
Do you accept insurance?
In order to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and to ensure that decisions about the length and type of treatment you receive are made by you, rather than by your insurance provider, I have chosen not to partner with any insurance companies. However, if you would like to use insurance to assist with the cost of therapy, I'll be glad to provide you with a statement that includes all the information you may need to file with your provider for reimbursement.
